Why Boreholes? Why now?

Let’s be real: we love Joburg, but its plumbing? Not so much. This city is over 140 years old, and has 12,000km of pipes that are basically geriatric (60% are way past their “use-by” date). The issue isn’t that we’re out of rain – it’s that the water can’t get to your tap due to failing maintenance of infrastructure.

At Spritza, we started out drilling massive holes for mines across Africa. Now, we’re using those world-class skills to help you say “Bye-Bye, Rand Water” and “Hello, Hydration Station.”

THE 5-PHASE INSTALLATION PROCESS

Becoming water-independent is a journey. Here’s how we get you there without drilling into a Gautrain tunnel (true story!).

1. The High-Tech Hide-and-Seek (Surveying): We don’t actually look for water; we look for geological “breaks” where water loves to hang out. It’s like finding the VIP lounge in a rock formation. We then submit the required municipal applications.

2. The Deep Dive (Drilling): We go down to the hard rock and case the hole so your garden doesn’t decide to cave in.

3. The “How Much You Got?” Test (Yield Testing): We check how much water your borehole can pump without getting exhausted.

4. The Gear-Up (Infrastructure): This is where the magic happens using advanced pumps and tanks. It’s not a one-size-fits-all situation; it’s a bespoke solution for your water supply.

5. The Lab Session (Filtration): Once your borehole “finds its groove,” we send a sample to the lab to spec a custom filtration system. Whether you have hard water that needs softening or “scale” that needs stopping, we customise the filters to your specific liquid DNA.

WATER TREATMENT & QUALITY

• Safety First: Don’t go buying “DIY” filters from a hardware store. If your water has nitrates or low pH, you need a pro system. We use glass filters for sediment and UV lights to zap bacteria.

• Drinkability: Borehole water is like the craft gin of the water world – more palatable, no chlorine, and naturally refreshing.

THE BIG QUESTIONS: MONEY & TIME

• The Investment: To go 100% off-grid, you’re looking at R130k to R200k.

• The Payback: High-usage homes can see this pay for itself in just 18 months.

• The Speed: We’re on-site for about 6 days. The whole “settling and testing” process takes about a month.

Pro Tip: Budget tight? We can do a Municipal Back-up system first and stage the rest later. You don’t have to do it all at once to start feeling the relief!

BUSTING THE BOREHOLE MYTHS

• Myth 1: “It’s like Solar.” Nope, it’s better. While solar needs the sun, a borehole works 24/7. It is the only way to be 100% independent from the city grid.

• Myth 2: “I’ll filter everything!” Bad idea. We separate your garden water from your drinking water. Why waste expensive filter life on your lawn?

• Myth 3: “Unlimited Water!” Easy there, Tiger. Boreholes need recovery time. If you pump it dry every 10 minutes, you’ll damage the source. Sustainability is the name of the game.

The Verdict: We aren’t tapping into some alien planet; we’re just catching the water cycle at a different point and cleaning it up. It’s better for you, better for your garden, and we are taking the strain off Joburg’s infrastructure! A win for a city that’s tired of burst pipes.
